Acupuncture helps neck pain by softening the muscles around the shoulder and neck, and bringing harmonious flow of blood and Qi to the area of concern. Helpful tips to encourage neck relief: gently bring ear to shoulder to stretch out one side, and then repeat on opposite side. A yummy favorite of mine is doing a couple neck rolls in one direction and then doing the same in the opposite direction. Enjoy!

It’s gonna be another cold and wet week. Bundle up tight and keep those toes warm and dry. The feet connect to our internal organs; warm feet mean warm and happy organs.

Is your walk to the office is a soggy one? Keep an extra pair of socks and/or shoes at your work desk just in case and you need to change into something warm and dry.

Enjoy the week!

Nourish Your Recovery

Visited a girlfriend of mine who just gave birth to a scrumptious lil’ girl…big shout-out to Ava…welcome baby! When I tickled her chin, her dimples would pop-out…too adorable! As for mom, doing phenomenal, couldn’t ask for a better delivery.

Although, baby and mom are doing well, it’s important for mom and anyone recovering from any post-operative condition, to nourish their energy (Qi) and blood. Surgery is literally a lot of work for the person lying on the operating table; it’s stressful on the body, and blood loss may occur as well as energy loss. A great way to enable the healing process to be smoother and quicker is to eat foods warm or neutral in chemistry. These foods strengthen the body’s constitution as well as allow the body to do what it does best, heal itself.

White rice is neutral in chemistry and when well-cooked or made into a soup has the amazing quality of strengthening one’s energy, nourishing the digestive system, and warming the body. Oatmeal makes for a perfect first-meal when coming out of surgery; it strengthens the immune system, prevents infections, and is also warming to the body.

For those who enjoy eating raw fruits and vegetables, unfortunately, for the meantime make sure all foods are cooked; steamed, boiled, stir-fried, and stewed. Raw foods consume a lot of the body’s energy and warmth, and take longer to break down in the digestive system. Avoid cold beverages, especially putting ice cubes in your drink; this generates a cold internal body temperature which slows down a healing process.

There’s all whole range of foods that fall in the categories of cold, warm, and neutral. Please, shoot me an email anytime for all questions; even the slightest ponder… halla back! I want the community of planet earth, who undergo surgery, to have a shorter recovery time so that they may return to life’s most precious activity, play!

BREATH EASY…..

EVERYWHERE,

ANYWHERE.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Start the morning with a scrumptious chest stretch. This activates the lungs Qi which helps fluids and the immune system circulate smoothly. This also stimulates the muscles in the chest to warm up the upper body…perfect for the morning!

My favorite easy chest stretch is to place arms behind the back, clasp hands together, and extend the arms behind the back; hold this position for 30 seconds. Feel it! Feel the stretch and chest cavity open up; yummy!

Take it easy. The solution is as simple as that, yet can be challenging to implement. The act of taking things easy helps to maintain proper energy balance especially with the liver energy, which tends to manifest feelings of stress when imbalanced.

Learning to take things easy will be a life long change, so for now just take it day-by-day. Or practice and be mindful of this for the first half of the day, check in with yourself and see how you’re doing, and continue it for the later half of the day. This is something that can and should be implemented at work, on the road, anywhere.

A life long student of taking it easy, Michelle

It’s Friday! Although it’s still a workday, begin unwinding for the weekend by adding something casual to your workday attire; light/thin clothing, loose pants or top, khakis. This helps set the mind up for relaxation and comfort; how every weekend should be! Me? Linen pants!
